The great thing about being a Reservist is that you are paid tax-free for each day attended, which is six hours or more. Add to that a generous service allowance, free food, uniforms and accommodation (if applicable), and you’ve got a part-time career unlike any other.

Officers

During the Initial Officer Course you’ll receive $90.99 per day, or $103.13 if you have a degree. Upon completion, pay rates per day will begin at $139.45 (non-degree qualified) and $148.52 (degree-qualified). Your salary will increase based on your rank and years of service. A daily Service Allowance of $12.52 is also payable to compensate for the unique demands of Reserve service.

Airmen/Airwomen

Airmen and airwomen receive $78.18 per day during recruit training and $92.43 while undertaking or waiting to complete employment training. Upon completion, pay rates per day will begin at $114.13 and increase depending on your trade, rank level and years of service. A daily Service Allowance of $12.52 is also payable to compensate for the unique demands of Reserve service.

Being in the Reserve benefits you

One of the most significant benefits of working in the Air Force Reserve or Specialist Reserve is that your pay is tax-free. You’ll also receive free accommodation and food whenever you’re training or on military exercises. Your uniform and equipment are free and any travel during Reserve employment training is paid for.
