Air Force | Accomplished

A typical day.

Most Air Force units will begin the day with a workout, which our members agree is a great way to start the day. Our instructors make it fun and there aren't many other jobs that pay you to keep fit!

When on base you can expect your working week to be similar to that of people outside the Air Force. Except there's an earlier finishing time of around 4.30pm. This gives you the chance to go home and catch up with family and friends, or to stay on base and make use of all the great sporting facilities and grounds.

If you're on deployment somewhere within Australia or overseas your daily routine will obviously vary. You'll be applying your skills in a more challenging environment.

Accommodation

During Initial Training you'll live on base where you'll find your shared facilities comfortable, practical and private.

Once you've completed your training you'll be posted to an Air Force base within Australia. On base you'll find comfortable living quarters that are subsidised by the Air Force. If you wish to live off base there are several options open to you.

This may surprise you but many Air Force personnel actually live off base in their own private accommodation. In fact we encourage our members to do this by offering various forms of housing assistance, from renting to buying your own home.

Air Force bases

The Air Force has 13 bases located right around the country. You can find them in the Northern Territory, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland.

Good food and lots of it

The Air Force believes that a happy crew is a crew that's well fed. So one thing you'll get plenty of in the Service is food, good food too. Air Force cooks prepare restaurant quality meals three times a day. You honestly couldn't eat better than this if you cooked at home, or went out to restaurants every night. In fact you'll probably never eat this well consistently at any other time in your life!

Time for fun

There's plenty of time for fun in the Air Force. Once you've finished for the day you can take off and enjoy yourself. On base is also a great place to meet up with your mates and relax over a drink.

You'll make great new friends in the Air Force. In fact, you'll have made friends after your first few days that will last a lifetime. Even people who've only been in the Air Force a few weeks talk about their new ‘family'. It's one of the best parts of Air Force life.
