As a member of the Air Force you’ll become part of a team that plays an integral role in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations, both within Australia and around the world. You’ll get the chance to make a genuine difference to communities affected by natural disasters and other emergencies, through projects that involve restoring vital services and distribution of food and medicine.
Exercise Pitch Black is the Air Force's largest air exercise, held every two years in the Northern Territory. Up to 3000 service men and women from Australia and countries including the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and France participate in the exercise, with ground crews and aircrews operating some of the most sophisticated military systems employed in the world. Fighter, strike, early warning, air-to-air refuelling and transport aircraft, combine with surface forces and systems to simulate and analyse operational planning and tactics in war-like conditions.


The operators of the Control and Reporting Centre (CRC) at Kandahar Airfield recently successfully concluded their two year mission in support of both the NATO led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and the US led Operation Enduring Freedom, in Afghanistan. During these operations Air Force members, predominantly from 41 Wing, provided air battle management and deconfliction for 196,000 coalition aircraft movements, making the airspace some of the world's busiest.
Exercise Night Watch is a training activity recently conducted by the Northern Expeditionary Combat Support Squadron (NECSS) Command Post (CP) team. Faced with the scenario of a Pacific neighbour in dire trouble after flooding has destroyed infrastructure, caused disease outbreak and food shortages. This group had to assist with the supply of essential provisions and provide combat service support to an Expeditionary Health Flight.
