The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA)

This is an excellent training option for entrants without an existing qualification. ADFA offers degrees in the fields of mechanical, electrical, civil and aeronautical engineering, as well as military and leadership training, to prepare you for your role as an Officer in the Air Force. You’ll be paid a salary, enjoy full medical and dental cover and your tuition fees and other student expenses will also be paid for. In return, you’ll serve in the Air Force for an Initial Minimum Period of Service. This varies depending on what job you apply for. Learn more

Officer Training

Regardless of whether you have previous qualifications or experience, you will need to complete the Initial Officer Course at Officers’ Training School, at RAAF Base East Sale, in Gippsland, Victoria to become an Officer in the Air Force. This comprehensive course runs for 16 weeks (it also has a part-time option for Reservist Personnel) and covers everything from leadership and management, to ground defence and fitness training. Defence University Sponsorship

If you’ve completed at least your first year of an undergraduate degree we can pay you up to $43,266 per year while you complete your degree, before undertaking the Initial Officer Course at Officers’ Training School. The Air Force will also cover your tuition fees and textbooks, subsidise your accommodation, and provide you with full medical and dental benefits.
