Operation SAMOA ASSIST

Air Force recently provided significant support to the Australian Government’s humanitarian relief effort for victims of the earthquake and tsunami devastated island nation of Samoa. Flights into Samoa delivered emergency aid and supplies, as well as medical personnel and Australian Government officials.

Operation SLIPPER - An explosion of dust is left in the wake of an Australian C-17 Globemaster as it lifts off from Tarin Kowt in Afghanistan.

Operation SAMOA ASSIST - Air Force and Royal New Zealand Air Force personnel help to push a RNZAF 3 Squadron, UH-1H Bell Iroquois helicopter out of a RAAF 37 Squadron, C-130J Hercules at the Samoan International Airport.

Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force 2 (MRTF 2)

Air Force’s giant C-17 Heavy Air Lift aircraft based at Amberley achieved a major milestone in support of Australian Defence Force operations in Afghanistan, landing for the first time on the remote air-strip at Tarin Kowt to deliver vital stores and equipment to the Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force 2 (MRTF 2).

Operation AZURE

Operation AZURE is the deployment of ADF personnel to the United Nations peacekeeping operation in Sudan, working to enforce a peace agreement which saw the end of a lengthy civil war. The Air Force contribution includes military observers and personnel who specialise in air movements and logistic support. This Operation included Australia’s first female contingent commander, an Air Traffic Controller who led a small team into the region.
