Officer, Australian Defence Force Academy, Graduate
As an Administration Officer (ADMINO) you could be employed in a range of roles within the Air Force and wider Australian Defence Force. The primary role for Administration Officers is the Unit Administration Officer, however there are also many opportunities to be employed in other roles. A few of these roles are outlined below.
Unit Administration Officer
A posting as a Unit ADMINO is likely to follow on completion of your professional military training. This role encompasses day-to-day Headquarters and Unit administration which includes human resource management, Unit travel arrangements, records and information management, financial reporting and implementation of Unit routine. You will also work closely with Service chaplains, other support staff and most importantly the Commanding Officer (CO), in tracking social amenities and welfare support arrangements for Unit personnel. Essentially, you will be one of the CO’s key staff contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Unit.
Training Officer
ADMINOs may be selected as Instructors at either of the Air Force’s primary training establishments, Officer Training School and No 1 Recruit Training Unit. Here you will instruct newly commissioned officers or newly enlisted recruits (airmen and airwomen) undergoing basic training. Your instruction will range from classroom based lectures on a variety of Air Force related subjects, to leadership and field training activities, all aimed at developing these new personnel into well trained individuals with the required Service ethos.
Recruiting Officer and Staff Officer
Staff Officer opportunities are available as the Personal Staff Officer to star rank officers from the Navy, Army and Air Force. There is an interview process for this role.

Deployments
ADMINOs often participate in deployments and are a vital part of these operations. A deployment is a challenging opportunity to put your human resource, administrative law, public relations and international engagement skills to use in an environment unlike any other.
Entry as an Air Force Administration Officer is available through the Undergraduate Scheme, the Australian Defence Force Academy, or as a Direct Entry Officer (including Reserve Officer) or commissioned from within the Air Force.
Officer (Reserve)
Administration Officers (ADMINOs) in the Royal Australian Air Force Active Reserve (RAAFAR) are trained in preparation for their contingency role in an operational unit or higher headquarters. Operational units may include expeditionary and in-situ combat support squadrons, flying squadrons, wings and support units. ADMINOs are posted to Reserve squadrons, which organise their training and employment either within the member's squadron or in another Australian Defence Force organisation.
ADMINOs may be employed in Human Resource management, Unit management, as a headquarters Staff Officer, and in general administration. Depending on the employment area, ADMINOs may be responsible for personnel administration, financial administration; raising reports; providing administrative advice and assistance to executive officers; counselling personnel, and managing unit or headquarters support services. Also, ADMINOs may be responsible for administration covering pay and allowances; personal claims; and providing budgetary advice to a Commanding Officer and Unit executive staff.
ADMINOs, whose contingency role is in a deployable unit, will need to develop specialised Ground Defence skills and knowledge needed to perform their duties in an operational environment.
