Aerospace Engineer Officer Initial Course
Location: RAAF Base Wagga, NSW
Duration: 4 weeks
The aim of the Aerospace Engineer Officer Initial Course is to graduate personnel with the underpinning knowledge, skills and attitudes required to fulfil an Aerospace Engineering Officer position within the Australian Defence Organisation engineering environment.
Mainly lecture based, with a visit to the Directorate General Technical Airworthiness and practical exercise components. The course consists of theory and practical instruction in the management of technical personnel, Australian Defence Force engineering and maintenance practice, the use of Australian Defence Force technical publications and occupational safety. The course is normally completed within two years of being commissioned as an Aerospace Engineering Officer.
Engineer Officer Armament Specialist Course
Location: Defence Establishment Orchard Hills (DEOH), NSW
Duration: 16 weeks
Engineering Officers Armament Specialist Course graduates newly-appointed Armament Officers to effectively perform duties in Junior Engineer Armament Officer posts. This course provides theory and practical instruction in all aspects of airborne weapons and airborne weapons systems, including explosives, explosive ordnance and explosive ordnance facilities.
Graduates will be employed in the assessment of operation of: generic aircraft weapons systems, precision guided munitions, current ADF explosive ordnance and ground defence weapons. Further employment will require the graduate to: perform the duties of Line Safety Officer, prepare explosive ordnance documentation, inspect explosive ordnance, perform disposal of explosive ordnance and analyse the technical performance of explosives.
Specialist category courses provide Aerospace Engineers with specific knowledge on the functions of their specialisation. The Engineer Armament Specialist Course covers theory and practical instruction in all aspects of weapons and weapons systems, including explosives, explosive ordnance and explosive ordnance facilities. The course is normally completed within two years of being commissioned as an Armament Engineering Officer.
