Note: Members of the Airbase Protection mustering are only employed in the Air Force in the Reserve.

Members of the Airbase Protection mustering in the Royal Australian Air Force Active Reserve are employed in Reserve Airbase Protection Flights in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Airbase Protection personnel augment Permanent Air Force security forces during times of increased security and Ground Defence operations. They undertake vehicle control point, observation post, reaction force, and vehicle and foot patrolling duties. To enable these tasks to be performed training for members of Airbase Protection will include legal powers, negotiating skills, self defence measures, use of a variety of weapons, and tactical skills used for patrolling and reacting to security threats. Members of Airbase Protection need to have a high commitment to physical fitness and the ability to deal with members of the public.

Airbase Protection personnel will spend the majority of their working time out of doors, in all weather conditions by both day and night. They may be exposed to excessive noise, extreme temperatures and the handling of hazardous material. The employment of Airbase Protection personnel enables the Air Force to meet its primary objective of keeping Australia's air defence and strike capabilities operational.

Airbase Protection personnel are able to progress to the rank of Flight Sergeant.
