Other Ranks (Technical)
Trainee Entry
Completion of Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English, Mathematics, Science and one other subject. These entry qualifications are the minimum required to facilitate understanding of the engineering principles encountered during later phases of training.
Note: Consumer Maths, Maths in Society and similarly 'modified' maths are not suitable subjects.
If you do not satisfy the education requirements for this trade or do not possess evidence of the required educational attainment there is an alternative pathway available to you.
You may be eligible to sit an Alternative Education Equivalency (AEE) Assessment to ascertain your ability at the required educational level for this trade.

Qualified
Qualified applicants must have successfully completed an indentured apprenticeship in Carpentry. Prior to enlistment applicants are to have:
- Certificate III in Building Construction General (Carpentry) BCG30203;
- dated equivalents - Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery; Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship Carpenter and Joiner; and
- Completed 12 months productive employment in the trade after training.
Note: You must have a pass in Year 10 English in addition to holding the relevant trade qualification.

Applicants applying for qualified entry must provide proof of high school results in addition to original trade certificates, units of competency results and a current resume to their Careers Counsellor. These documents will then be forwarded to the Recruiting Liaison Officer (RLO-1) at Directorate of Personnel Capability Management - Air Force for review by the Air Force job sponsor to establish eligibility for qualified enlistment.
Other Ranks (Technical) (Reserve)
Qualified candidates must hold Certificate Level 3 in General Construction (Carpentry), Certificate Level 3 in Off Site Construction (Joinery) or equivalent Certificate Level 3 (Carpentry and Joinery).
Note: Applicants must have a pass in Year 10 English in addition to holding the relevant trade qualification.
Entry into the RAAF Active Reserve (RAAFAR) is by selection to fill available vacancies. The selection standards are the same as those joining the Permanent Air Force (PAF) but also require that the applicant lives within 3 hrs surface travelling time of a RAAFAR Squadron.
