Pay & Allowances
Qualified
On initial entry as a fully qualified tradesperson you are enlisted as an Aircraftman / Aircraftwoman Recruit (ACR/ACWR) and remain as such until graduation from 1RTU.
However, in recognition of your trade qualifications you will be paid the salary of an Aircraftman / Aircraftwoman (AC/ACW) on Pay Group 3 at the rate of $1,560 per fortnight ($40,666 per year)* upon enlistment.
On completion of Recruit Training you will be reclassified to Leading Aircraftman / Leading Aircraftwoman (LAC/LACW) on Pay Group 3 with a salary (excluding allowances) of $1,590 per fortnight ($41,467 per year)*.
In addition to your base salary, Service Allowance at the rate of $409 per fortnight ($10,672 per year) is paid once you have completed Recruit training to compensate for the unique requirements that service life may impose on you or your family.
To assist you in maintaining your uniforms in good order and condition, you will also receive a Uniform Allowance of $16 per fortnight ($419 per year).
Salary will continue to increase based on rank and the number of years of service completed in that rank. Pay Group may also increase following the acquisition of additional skills and completion of advanced courses.

Other Ranks (Technical) (Reserve)
Salary while undertaking Military (Recruit) Training: $66.88 per day tax free.
Each General Entry job in the Australian Defence Force is classified into a pay group. This particular job is classified as a Pay Group 3 occupation. Members of the Reserve on part-time service are paid at a daily rate of pay and this occupation attracts a starting rate of $111.41 per day.
Your Pay Group will normally increase following the acquisition of additional skills and completion of advanced courses.
In addition to your salary, a Service Allowance of $11.01 per day is payable to compensate for the unique demands of Reserve Service.
