Other Ranks (Non Technical)
Clerks are employed in a wide range of administrative roles throughout the Air Force including Personnel Administration, Financial Management, Medical Administration, Training and Technical Publication Administration and Air and Ground Operations.
The duties of a Clerk are varied but may include:
Personnel Administration - Administration of leave and movements;
General Administration - Receiving and processing of correspondence, maintenance of personnel service documents, processing personnel applications, general service administrative duties, word processing, maintaining databases and updating publications;
Equipment - Operate computers, audio visual aids, telephones, photocopiers, facsimile machines and field radio equipment;
Financial - Maintenance of personnel pay records, accounting for public monies, processing of accounts for payment and collection, compilation of statistical and financial returns and raising claims for payment;
Training and Technical Publication - Maintenance of technical publications in an operational unit and control resources within a training environment;
Medical - Administration within Air Force Hospitals and Medical Flights, filing and transmission of medical documentation, maintenance of health records, and arrange and administer hospital admissions and appointments;
Deployment - Postal Administration, Cash handling and general office duties.
Working conditions are generally good in well appointed offices. However, members of the mustering may be required to live and work under field conditions when participating in military manoeuvres/exercises or deployed on active service.

Clerks in the Royal Australian Air Force Active Reserve are trained in preparation for their contingency role in one of the Air Force's operational units. These units may include expeditionary and in-situ combat support squadrons, higher command headquarters, flying squadrons, wings and support units. Clerks are posted to Reserve squadrons, which organise their training and employment either within the member's squadron or in another ADF organisation.
The Reserve Clerk is responsible for providing advice and assistance to ADF personnel on administrative aspects. Clerks also have a responsibility to control administrative processes and functions.
