Dental surgery duties include prepare patients for treatment; prepare and clean the surgery; clean, sterilise and store instruments; take, process and file radiographs; maintain surgery equipment; prepare and mix preventive materials; provide preventive services to patients; deliver lectures on oral hygiene; maintain records of treatment rendered; construct mouthguards; assist Dental officers as required; and
Administrative tasks include preparation, processing and filing of correspondence, reports and accounts, arrange appointments; receive and dispatch documentation and stores; and manage the day to day functions of a dental flight.
Work conditions - Dental Hygienists normally work in environmentally controlled health facilities but may be required to work in a deployed field dental unit.
Dental Hygienists are exposed to infectious and hazardous substances and hazardous equipment on a daily basis, however provided proper attention is paid to safety precautions, there is a low risk of injury.
