Employment Training

Qualified

On completion of recruit training you will be posted to an operational RAAF Unit and provided with a more substantial overview of what is required of you in the work place together with instruction on general and technical administration procedures. After 12 months On the Job Training (OJT) you will become eligible for promotion to LAC/LACW Advanced GMEFITT (Pay Group 4). Progression beyond LAC/LACW Advanced GMEFITT is based on further training and/or periods of employment. Opportunities are available for advancement, in competition with your peers, through the ranks to Warrant Officer.

Technician Progression.

Opportunities exist for individuals to undergo advanced training leading to remuster to GME Technician (GMETECH). GMETECHs are primarily employed on advanced CNC lathes manufacturing specific aircraft components - this work commands a high degree of skill and responsibility.

Progression from the GMEFITT to GMETECH is by the successful completion of the Advanced Aircraft Machining course, which comprises Computer Numerical Control subjects. This course is conducted at RAAF Base Wagga and may be offered to selected Corporals and LAC/LACW Advanced GMEFITTs who are competitive for promotion to Corporal. Available positions for this course are dependent upon workforce requirements.

Upon successful completion of the GMETECH course, LACs/LACWs are eligible for promotion to Corporal and may, in competition, advance through the ranks to Warrant Officer.
