Officer, Graduate, Australian Defence Force Academy

Logistics Officer Initial Course - 45 days

Location: RAAF School of Administration and Logistics Training in Wagga, NSW.

During this 45 day course, you will receive the logistics specialist instruction necessary to enable you to satisfactorily perform the duties of a junior Logistics officer in positions located throughout Australia. The Logistics Officer Initial Course provides instruction in:

  • The role of logistics in the Air Force Logistics organisation and relevant organisational structures;
  • General supply procedures - covering aspects such as: stockholding policy, supply of equipment from civilian and Service sources, local purchase, contracts management (including tendering and contracts administration), provisioning, supply monitoring, repairable item tracking, procurement from overseas and capital project management, identification and cataloguing of equipment;
  • Financial management - embracing the budgetary process, funds control and financial planning, allocations and accounting;
  • Stock control - accounting procedures including types of accounts maintained, voucher transactions and responsibilities for supply support for exercises, operations and contingencies;
  • An introduction to Logistics Information Technology Support Systems and their management;
  • Warehousing - responsibilities, storage principles and materials handling and packaging devices;
  • Equipment - receipt, inspection, despatch and disposal procedures;
  • An overview of dangerous goods - handling, storage and accounting procedures;
  • Explosives - outline of storage principles and facilities;
  • The ADF and Air Force movements' organisation - the roles and responsibilities of the various functional elements;
  • An overview of the Air Force Catering Organisation; and
  • Personnel management - related specifically to the Service and civilian personnel employed within the logistics organisations, Defence Ethics and Fraud awareness policies, and implementation of Occupational Health and Safety Policies.
Officer (Reserve)

Logistics Officer Initial Course

Depending on a Reservist's availability and course vacancies, the Logistics Officer Initial Course may be undertaken full-time at the RAAF School of Administration and Logistics Training (RAAFSALT) at Wagga Wagga, NSW. The course is 45 days in duration and personnel are required to live-in during the training period. Weekend leave is available during the course but no other leave is allowed except for compassionate reasons.

The Air Force is planning to allow Reserve members to undertake the course through a combination of modularised delivery at RAAFSALT and training at the Reservist's home unit.

Reserve Squadron Training Flight staff will arrange for the Reservist trainee to be provided with a mentor and an appropriate workplace environment for practical experience. Training staff will monitor the trainee's progress and provide the necessary assistance to ensure that the Reservist graduates.
