Medical Assistants (MEDASST) are employed in Air Force hospitals
and Unit Health Facilities to assist registered nurses (Nursing
Officers) with the provision of nursing and pre-hospital care to
members of the ADF. Other MEDASST duties include participating in
field exercises, providing nursing assistance during aeromedical
evacuations and operational deployments and providing first aid
lectures to Air Force personnel. Selected MEDASSTs are employed in
operating theatres and the Operational Health Support and Health
Service Training areas.
Working conditions, facilities and equipment are good. Shift work is routine.
During field exercises, exposure to extremes of weather may be encountered.
