Employment Training
Other Ranks (Non Technical) (Reserve)
Recruit training is followed by Motor Transport Driver training. However, the scheduling of courses and the availability of the individual may allow recruit training and basic trade training to be undertaken in sequence, concurrently or out of sequence.
All pre-driver and initial specific vehicle training is conducted at the reservist's home squadron or other appropriate Permanent Air Force unit. All base squadrons have the training capability to provide a range of vehicle type training by Reserve Driver Testing Officers.
Reserve training staffing will arrange for the reservist trainee to be provided with a mentor and an appropriate workplace environment for practical experience. Training staff will monitor the trainee's progress and provide the necessary assistance to ensure that the reservist graduates. Actual time taken to complete the course of training will depend on the availability of vehicles, the trainee's availability and the individual training program as determined by the Reserve training staff. However, as a guide, the initial vehicle training program conducted on a part-time basis could be completed within a 12-month period.
The driver training program for Motor Transport Driver entrants comprises:

This course which is completed in one day provides theory instruction in defensive driving techniques, motor transport forms and vehicle servicing requirements at driver level. Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite for the initial issue of a Defence Driving Licence;
