Other Ranks (Technical)
Trainee Entry
After completing Recruit Training, plumber trainees undertake the following training: 16 month initial trade training plumber course at the Army School of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering at Bonegilla in Victoria. Trainees are taught introductory skills in drainage, sanitary plumbing, gasfitting, roofing, mechanical services and water supply. Studies that will lead to licensing include drainage, sanitary plumbing, roofing and water supply.
This is followed by 12-18 months of On-the-Job experience based at School of Military Engineering at Moorebank.
After completion of the aforementioned training you will attend training at RAAFSFS, RAAF Base Amberley near Brisbane in QLD, to complete the 7 week Airfield Engineer Initial Employment Course. Here, you will undertake Basic Airfield Engineering Construction courses, and driver training such as Landrover 110, Unimog, Medium Rigid vehicles plus trailers, Skid Steer Loader, and Backhoe Loader. This course also covers site induction training (Green NSW and Blue QLD cards).

Airfield Engineer Initial Employment Course
Location: RAAF School of Fire and Security (RAAFSFS) Amberley, QLD
Duration: 7 weeks
On graduation from Recruit Training at RAAF Base Wagga NSW, you will attend training at RAAFSFS, RAAF Base Amberley near Brisbane in QLD, to complete the 7 week Airfield Engineer Initial Employment Course. Here, you will undertake Basic Airfield Engineering Construction courses, and driver training such as Landrover 110, Unimog, Medium Rigid vehicles plus trailers, Skid Steer Loader, and Backhoe Loader. This course also covers site induction training (Green NSW and Blue QLD cards).
Other Ranks (Technical) (Reserve)
Plumbers are currently recruited with the required skills set to meet the core competencies of Air Force Plumbers. The only employment training required upon entry is general service Recruit Training.
