Education & Experience

Specialist Reserve

Applicants must have a minimum of Year 12 education standard, with a preference for relevant tertiary qualifications and allied employment experience.

Public affairs officers will normally be appointed to the RAAFSR with one of the following ranks:

  • Pilot officer - relevant non-tertiary training, and/or compensating public affairs or allied employment experience; or
  • Flying officer - bachelor degree in organisational communication or public affairs or journalism or other allied discipline, or relevant public affairs or allied employment experience warranting the grant of higher rank.

Note: For applicants with higher degrees and extensive public affairs or allied employment experience, consideration may be given to the grant of Flight Lieutenant rank upon appointment as an officer.
