Phase 1 - Language Primary Skills course: 22
weeks
After graduation from No 1 Recruit Training Unit
you will undertake language
training at the ADF School of Languages, which is located at RAAF
Base Williams at Laverton in Victoria. At the completion of this
training you will graduate as a qualified linguist. Your final
assessment results will be rated according to the Australian
Defence Language Proficiency Rating Scale (ADLPRS). This training
also receives recognition under the ACT Accreditation authority if
the required standard is attained.
Phase 2 - Initial Signals Operator course: 30 weeks
When you have been granted a TS(PV), you are required to undergo 30 weeks of SIGSOP (L) training at the Electronic Warfare Wing of the Defence Force School of Signals which is located at Cabarlah, in Queensland. This is a Joint Service School and you will be training alongside Navy and Army personnel being prepared for similar duties.
During this period you will receive training in:
- Security procedures;
- Radio communications;
- Radio theory;
- Specialist intercept equipment procedures; and
- You will also be taught to touch type to the required standard.
