Employment Training

Other Ranks (Non Technical)

Following recruit training and after being TOP SECRET POSITIVE VETTED, you are required to undergo Initial Employment Training (IET) which is conducted in two phases. Phase 1 consisting of either the RAAF ELINT Analysis Course or the Technical Signals Analysis Course.

Both of these courses are conducted at the Defence Force School of Signals Electronic Warfare Wing, Toowoomba, QLD. This is a Joint Service School and you will be training alongside Navy and Army personnel being prepared for similar duties as that of the SIGSOP(T).

IET - PHASE 1

RAAF ELINT Analysis Course: 20 weeks.

This course teaches the fundamentals and analysis of Electronic Intelligence. This is intelligence gained from Electronic Signals (eg Radars). During this period you will also receive training in:

  • Security procedures;
  • Typing;
  • Electronic Warfare;
  • Propagation Theory;
  • Radar Theory;
  • SIGINT Organisational Procedures;
  • Communication Structures; and
  • Equipment Manipulation.

Technical Signals Analysis Course: 18 weeks.

This course teaches the fundamentals and analysis of complex signals for intelligence purposes. During this period you will also receive training in:

  • Security procedures;
  • Typing;
  • Electronic Warfare;
  • Propagation Theory;
  • Radar Theory;
  • SIGINT Organisational Procedures;
  • Communication Structures; and
  • Equipment Manipulation.

IET - PHASE 2

Information Warfare Wing: 6-12 weeks.

Following the RAAF ELINT or Technical Signals Analysis course you will undertake phase 2 of your Initial Employment Training at Information Warfare Wing, Adelaide, South Australia. This will provide the opportunity for your skills to be applied in a range of tasks associated with typical day to day employment for SIGSOP(T)s. Phase 2 of your training will typically be completed in a timeframe of 6-12 weeks.

On successful completion of both phase 1 and phase 2, you will graduate as a SIGSOP(T) and receive your first posting as an AC/ACW SIGSOP(T).
