Frequently Asked Questions

  • What if I don't like being a SIGSOP(T)?

SIGSOP(T) training is 32 weeks. After completion of the course a return of service obligation is required. This means that if you are not happy being a SIGSOP(T) you are required to stay for at least 2-3 years. After this time, you may apply for a different career within the RAAF. This is called a remuster.

  • Are there overseas opportunities?

Yes, but they are very limited. Two CPLs and one SGT in the United Kingdom.

  • Can I do other courses while I am a SIGSOP(T)?

The initial courses give you basic analytical skills. There are several courses after your Initial Employment Training that you will undertake to enhance these skills so that you may tackle more difficult signals analysis. In today's environment most of the analysis is done using software tools with opportunities to develop these skills through additional training. There is also provision for future development through training conducted at universities and other civilian institutions.
