The role of the Supply (SUP) mustering is to provide governance, inventory management, procurement, storage and physical distribution of materiel, and sustained logistics system support for the Air Force and broader Defence organisation, within the ADF logistics support systems.

Duties include:

  • Management of the supply computer database and statutory accounts;
  • Processing of base demands for general stores and aircraft spares through supply from Service sources or purchase from civilian suppliers;
  • Purchasing including electronic purchasing, raising of purchase orders, processing of claims, and maintenance of funds control ledgers;
  • Operating forklifts in the loading and unloading of stores;
  • Physical receipt, storage, issue, packaging, despatch and transportation of materiel; and
  • Use of Air Force computerised stores record systems involving:
    • Receipt, issue, and ordering of equipment;
    • Inventory control;
    • Data validation and correction;
    • Stocktaking;
    • Equipment liaison - acting as the supply interface between the operational element and logistics support units; and
    • Supply administration including correspondence and voucher processing.

The working environment of the Supply mustering varies from reasonably comfortable offices to large warehouses that can be uncomfortable due to draughts, heat, cold and dust. They may also be subjected to extreme noise hazards when operating within flying squadron environments. Shiftwork and extended hours are frequently involved when on deployed operations and field exercises. Duties may involve physical lifting and manual handling of materiel in situations where MHE may not be available or cannot be used for assistance.

During operations and field exercises, Supply personnel may be required to live under adverse conditions and work with limited resources. As a Supply member you will be generally employed within an office environment in, but not limited to equipment management sections, warehouses, central procurement areas, systems program offices, flying squadrons; or an expeditionary combat support squadron.

Other Ranks (Non Technical) (Reserve)

Supply (SUP) personnel in the Royal Australian Air Force Active Reserve are trained in preparation for their contingency role in one of the Air Force's operational units. These units may include expeditionary and in-situ combat support squadrons, higher command headquarters, flying squadrons, wings and logistic squadron/support units. Supply personnel are posted to Reserve squadrons, which organise their training and employment either within the member's squadron or in another ADF organisation.

Reserve SUP personnel are responsible for providing governance, inventory management, procurement, storage and physical distribution of materiel, and sustained logistics system support for the Air Force and broader Defence organisation, within the ADF logistics support systems.

The operational role of SUP personnel will require them to develop the specialised Ground Defence skills and knowledge needed to perform their duties in an operational environment.
