Supply Initial Employment Training Course - 12 Weeks

Trainees complete a 12 week course of studies on Air Force supply procedures at the RAAF School of Administration and Logistics Training, located at RAAF Base Wagga. The course provides instruction in storage, receipt, despatch and packaging of materiel, maintenance of inventory records, identification and cataloguing of equipment, the Air Force computerised stock management system, Basic Procurement Skills, the role of supply within the Air Force, and supply documentation.

Forklift training is also provided during the 12 week course.

Other Ranks (Non Technical) (Reserve)

Recruit training is followed by the Supply Initial Employment Training Course. However, the scheduling of courses and the availability of the individual may allow recruit training and basic trade training to be undertaken in sequence, concurrently or out of sequence.

Depending on a reservist's availability and course vacancies, the Supply Initial Employment Course may be undertaken full-time at the RAAF School of Administration and Logistics Training at RAAF Wagga , NSW. The course is 12 weeks duration and personnel are required to live-in during the training period. Weekend leave is available during the course but no other leave is permitted except for compassionate reasons. Reserve personnel wishing to undertake the full-time Supply Initial Course may be provided a short-term contract on Full Time Duty under Air Force Act 4J(3) to attend the course.

Most reservists, however, complete their initial employment training in part-time mode. The Supply Initial Course is available in distance learning format.

The Supply Initial Course is the first stage of trade training for advancement. The course provides instruction in storage, receipt, despatch and packaging of materiel, maintenance of inventory records, identification and cataloguing of equipment, the Air Force computerised stock management system, Basic Procurement Skills, the role of supply within the Air Force, and supply documentation. Forklift training is also provided during the 12 week course.

Reserve Squadron Training Flight staff will arrange for the reservist trainee to be provided with a mentor and an appropriate workplace environment for practical experience. Training staff will monitor the trainee's progress and provide the necessary assistance to ensure that the reservist graduates. Actual time taken to complete the course will depend on the availability of the trainee and the individual training program as determined by the Reserve Training Officer at each squadron. However, as a guide the Supply Initial Course could be completed in part-mode within 60 - 70 reserve training days.

Post-graduate Training

Following completion of Supply Initial training, Supply reservists may be required to undertake additional courses to provide them with skills required in their allocated operational workplace. These courses may include procurement and various motor transport driving licences. These courses are either modularised long-duration or short courses. Most post-graduate training courses can be delivered in the Reserve squadron environment.
