As a member of the Air Force you’ll become part of a team that plays an integral role in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations, both within Australia and around the world. Here are some examples of some recent Air Force deployments and exercises.
Operation TOWER is the Australian Defence Force's (ADF) contribution to the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT), established in 2006 following civil unrest in the area. With representation from 13 countries, the UNMIT Military Liaison Group conducts daily monitoring of the security environment as well as providing military advice on the restoration and maintenance of security. ADF members are also employed as staff officers based at UNMIT headquarters in Dili.

Exercise Talisman Saber 2009 is a U.S. led, Australian supported, exercise to improve combat training, readiness and inter-working capability, for conventional conflict situations and peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts. The exercise forms part of the ADF training program to ensure we are well prepared for any future deployments to protect and support Australia and its national interests. It also aims to ensure Australian and US military forces can work together efficiently and safely.
Operation PADANG ASSIST commenced in early October 2009, after the Indonesian Government accepted an offer of emergency assistance from Australia, following two large earthquakes near the Indonesian Island of Sumatra. The Air Force has played a vital role as part of the ADF Joint Task Force 629, working closely with Indonesian authorities, the Department of Foreign Affairs, AusAID and other agencies, to deliver emergency relief to where it is needed most.
