The Aircraft Life Support Fitter is a trade specialist who requires expertise in the conditioning of and craftsmanship with textile materials, the fitting of aviation life support systems including protective flying helmets, life preserver assemblies, life-rafts and aircraft escape/rescue equipment and other equipment for specific tasks. Knowledge of explosive ordnance handling and inspection requirements related to rescue pyrotechnics is required in addition to personnel rescue beacon functional testing procedures.

The types of aircraft that Aircraft Life Support Fitters may maintain throughout their career are the Sikorsky S-70A-9 Black Hawk, the Eurocopter EC665 Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter, the Boeing CH47 Chinook or the Multi-Role Helicopter (MRH90).
