Selected officers with technical aptitude may serve as instructors at the School of Artillery, after training overseas, on the Ministry of Defence, (UK), as technical intelligence officers and at the Army Battle Simulation Group, (Sydney), as controllers. Graduates to RAA may also be selected to attend the Royal Military College of Science, (UK), to undertake a MSc in guided weapons or other disciplines, or attend a shorter course which prepares them for appointments in technical staff postings, including proof and ballistics throughout Australia.
The selections of all officers for further study is based upon merit first, then qualification. This means that officers must perform well as regimental subalterns and on corps and non-corps courses in the ranks of lieutenant and captain to be chosen for further study.
