Officer (Reserve)

Sworn Police Officers

You would be considered for direct entry if you are either a serving or recently retired sworn police officer who has successfully completed detective training, can demonstrate criminal investigative experience and has a formal qualification and demonstrated experience in an investigative specialisation required by ADFIS. Investigative experience may include:

  • computer forensics;
  • surveillance;
  • management of serious crime;
  • criminal intelligence;
  • major crime;
  • fraud;
  • homicide;
  • sexual assault;
  • illicit drugs;
  • ballistics;
  • arson; and
  • policing learning and development.

Other than sworn Police Officer

You would also be considered for direct entry if you have a minimum of a Diploma of Investigation, or qualifications in relevant investigative fields of employment similar to those conducted by sworn officers. In this case, demonstrated experience in the field of sensitive and criminal investigations, where the provision of your briefs or reports of evidence contribute to a court case, is highly desirable.

Further Requirements

Like all officers associated with law and order, ADF Investigators require strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement supported by a high degree of integrity, professionalism diplomacy, honesty, discretion and ethical behaviour. To meet the job requirements for appointment as an ADF Investigator, you must be assessed as:

  • possessing a high level of written communication skills;
  • possessing a high level of oral communication skills;
  • possessing a high level of problem solving and analytical skills;
  • being of good character with no criminal convictions;
  • having a temperament and maturity suitable for military investigations;
  • experienced in the management of sensitive, complex and major investigations; and
  • experienced in the management or leadership of small teams.

Depending on your qualifications, experience and attributes, you could be considered for direct entry as either a Lieutenant or Captain. A decision on your rank would be made at an Army Officer Selection Board.
