Job Details
The key role of the Force Preservation Officer (FPO) is to apply sound safety management principles to preserve human and material resources in all ground and maintenance related operations to enhance this capability. The FPO is the principal OH&S adviser to the Commanding Officer (CO). Duties include:
- providing professional advice and guidance in policy, strategic planning and implementation of the Army Aviation Safety Management System (AASMS);
- assisting in the identification, trial and evaluation of personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for hazardous work environments, and subsequent monitoring of its in-service use;
- maintaining unit OHS publications;
- assisting in the facilitation, guidance and monitoring of the implementation of the AASMs across sub-units and supporting workshops;
- providing OH&S advice to accident investigation teams when required;
- participating in internal auditing programs;
- investigating and analysing accidents or incidents as determined by the unit CO;
- providing OH&S advice at regimental safety meetings;
- advising Unit Safety Advisers/Coordinators on the implementation of the Army Safety Risk Management System;
- advising on contractor and sub-contractor safety management performance in unit Defence controlled workplaces; and
- performing research on OH&S issues including, but not limited to:
- noise and airborne contaminants, and
- confined space entry and confined space work environments and chemical and hazardous substance management.
