Other Ranks (Non Technical)
The Royal Australian Army Pay Corps provides the finance and pay services essential to the day to day management of the Army and the morale of soldiers.
Clerks Finance are responsible for payroll management, administration and advice to all ranks on pay and allowances, cash office procedures, unit financial management, public moneys and non public moneys accounting and corporate governance compliance.
The Clerk Finance is commonly known as the Unit Pay Representative (UPR) up to the rank of Corporal (CPL). As a Sergeant/Warrant Officer they are generally known as a Sergeant/Warrant Officer Finance. The job is performed by using various software packages, interpreting a variety of defence publications with customer-focused communication and inter-personal skills.
Following are some of the tasks Clerk Finance is expected to do. Note that not all duties are performed in each position:
- Understand professional pay and allowance concepts related to the military environment;
- Provide accurate advice on pay, personal allowances and unit/personal claims;
- Record transactions and conduct internal checking procedures;
- Maintain unit pay documentation;
- Undertake a defined range of clerical duties;
- Apply liaison, communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ensure that suspected fraud is reported;
- Participate in the administration of Non Public Money Accounts;
- Perform unit resource management;
- Operate a cash office;
- Prepare financial documentation and bids; and
- Act as the unit's pay representative and supervise the activities of other Clerks Finance within the unit or headquarters.
