Pay & Allowances
Graduate
Salary (excluding allowances) on appointment at Competency Level 1 is $64,020 per annum ($2,456 per fortnight)*. The pay increase on progression from Competency Level 1 to Competency Level 2 is substantial and can be expected within 12-18 months of commencing uniformed service.
Medical Officers may be appointed at higher Competency Levels, with concomitantly higher salaries, depending on the postgraduate qualifications held.
Uniform Allowance at a rate of $682 per annum ($26 per fortnight)* is paid to assist members to maintain an approved scale of uniforms in good order and condition.
Service Allowance at the rate of $10,672 per annum ($409 per fortnight)* is paid to all members (except for certain trainee categories) below the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent. The allowance compensates a member for the unique requirements that service life may impose on an individual and his or her family.
Salary will continue to increase based on Competency Level, rank and the number of years of service completed in that rank. Refer to the Salary Scales.

Graduate Medical Scheme
First Year $1,830 per fortnight ($47,702 per year).*
Second Year $1,895 per fortnight ($49,400 per year).*
Third Year $1,963 per fortnight ($51,172 per year).*
Fourth Year $2032 per fortnight ($52,973 per year).*
Year of Internship $2,175 per fortnight ($56,702 per year).*
On completion of hospital residency, salary (excluding allowances) on appointment at Competency Level 1 is $2,456 per fortnight ($64,020 per year).*
Note: Applicants who are serving in the Reserve may be entitled to a higher rate of salary. The Officer Selection Board will advise if you are entitled to a higher salary rate by virtue of previous Reserve service.
Uniform Maintenance Allowance at a rate of $26 per fortnight ($682 per year) is paid to assist members to maintain an approved scale of uniforms in good order and condition.

Undergraduate
4 years to graduation: $21,146 per year ($811 per fortnight).*
3 years to graduation: $25,213 per year ($967 per fortnight).*
2 years to graduation: $31,719 per year ($1,217 per fortnight).*
In final year of training: $33,753 per year ($1,295 per fortnight).*
In residency year: $56,702 per year ($2,175 per fortnight) .*
Trainees with dependants may be entitled to Trainee's Dependant Allowance which is paid to enable trainees with dependants to receive a salary not less than $36,658 per year ($1,406 per fortnight) while training. Conditions apply. Speak to your Careers Counsellor for details.

Graduate (Reserve)
Members of the Reserve on part-time service are paid at a daily rate of pay which is tax-free. A higher salary may be granted in recognition of relevant work experience. This will be discussed at the Officer Selection Board.
While undergoing Initial Officer Training, degree qualified trainees receive $80.45 a day. Daily rates of pay for Reserve Force Medical officers commence at $175.40.
In addition to your salary, a Service Allowance of $11.01 per day is payable to compensate for the unique demands of Reserve Service.
