If you've just finished school, or you're in the middle of a tertiary course you might be asking yourself, "What now?" Like many people your age you might not know what you want to do with your life. It's a big decision. Why not consider a different challenge for twelve months? Something completely new and exciting. It will broaden your perspective and help you to gain more life experience. It's ADF Gap Year.
ADF Gap Year is a new Australian Defence Force (ADF) program for students or recent school leavers. Individual programs run across the three Services of Navy, Army and Air Force and are designed to give you detailed insight into how the ADF operates. Think of it as a ‘try before you buy' taste of the ADF.
You also gain invaluable life skills and job training that you can apply to life outside the ADF if you choose not to stay longer with us.
You'll earn at least $30 000 per year and there's no requirement to stay beyond this point.
When undertaking Basic Training you'll be introduced to a variety of military equipment, learn general Service skills, eat the same food and use similar recreational facilities as our regular members.
This program is such a good way to meet new people from all over the country. Some you'll have lots in common with and others will have completely different life experiences to you. It makes it really interesting because you'll be training and socialising with people who can teach you new things that might make decisions about your future easier to reach.
If you are completing your Gap Year with the Navy and Air Force you can resign at any time if you decide it's not for you. In the Army, you can resign during Basic Training in the Initial Recruit Training phase, which is within the first 80 days.
