The personal information that you or your authorised representative (i.e. a third party) provide to ADF Careers is protected by law, and will be handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 including the Australian Privacy Principles) and the ADF Careers Privacy Statement.

By contacting ADF Careers, you may be asked to provide personal information such as your name, gender, and contact details. Throughout the assessment process, you may also be required to provide further personal information as outlined in the ADF Careers Privacy Statement.

ADF Careers will collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information (including sensitive information) for the purposes of providing you information, accepting your application, creating a candidate file for you, and assessing your eligibility and suitability for service with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) (including the undertaking of medical (including psychological) assessments). Your personal information may also be used or disclosed for related purposes, including research directed at improving the recruitment process.

Your personal information may be disclosed to the Department of Defence (“Defence”) and authorised agents involved in the ADF recruiting process, the Australian Federal Police, Commonwealth Departments/agencies/authorities/Ministers, or any person with a lawful entitlement to obtain the information. Where necessary, your personal information may also be disclosed to an overseas agency or person to obtain information related to the application process (including verifying information you have provided). Your personal information may also be shared with other third parties where you have consented, or as otherwise required or authorised by law, including the Privacy Act 1988.

If you choose not to provide ADF Careers with personal information, this may impact upon the provision of information to yourself and/or the progression of your application.

In addition to accessing the ADF Careers Privacy Statement from this website, you can request a copy by contacting ADF Careers on 131902 (phone) or visiting your nearest ADF Careers Centre (ADFCC). ADF Careers will generally provide you with access to the personal information it holds about you, except where it is required or authorised by law to refuse access.

If you are enlisted or appointed, your completed application will be retained by Defence as part of your personal record and may be used for the purpose of making career and personnel management decisions, discipline and may be used in the security assessment process. If your application is not successful, the information will be retained in accordance with the Archives Act 1983.
