Physical fitness plays a vital role in the Army and that's why we teach a different kind of fitness than anything that's out there in the civilian world. We focus on areas like all over body strength, endurance and co-ordination, which are going to help our recruits prepare for the challenging physical demands of their job in the Army. We encourage our members to make good nutrition and exercise a part of every single day and to embrace a lifestyle of fitness.

We take a group of six civilians and one current Army recruit through various components of the Army's Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) test, as well as some additional physical training sessions that the recruits experience during their time at Kapooka. The results will give you a better understanding of the general fitness levels required to join the Australian Regular Army.
A lot of people who join the Army arrive here expecting to get fit. But as you'll see in the film, you really need to have a decent base level of fitness in place, before you join. And that's not just to pass the initial fitness test, it's so we can work with you to build up those specialised fitness areas, such as strength and endurance, which you'll need to have no matter what Army job you'll be doing.
All candidates who have been recommended for appointment or enlistment in the Army must undergo a Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) prior to entry. The PFA consists of a shuttle run, push-ups and sit-ups. Learn more
