Deployments and peacekeeping exercises are your chance to make a positive difference to other people’s lives while working on important humanitarian and disaster relief programs. Below are just a few examples of recent Navy Operations and Exercises.
Operation RESOLUTE is the ADF’s contribution to the Australian government’s efforts to protect Australia’s borders and offshore maritime interests. Up to 400 ADF personnel are assigned to Operation RESOLUTE, including seven RAN Armidale-class patrol boats (ACPBs), a standby RAN Major Fleet Unit (for our northern waters response) and an underway replenishment vessel. In addition, ADF units transiting the area of operations, whilst not assigned to Operation RESOLUTE, also contribute to the overall surveillance and security effort through their presence and standard reporting procedures.
As part of its final tasking in the Middle East, HMAS Toowoomba joined CTF 50 (Commander of the Carrier Strike Group assigned to the Middle East) to provide important air defence to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS NIMITZ.
USS NIMITZ operates in the Northern Arabian Sea, providing a vital platform to launch aircraft in and out of Afghanistan. Aircraft include F/A-18s (Hornets), F/A-18E/Fs (Super Hornets) and EA-6Bs (Prowlers). The aircraft capability on USS NIMITZ provides direct fire support for combat troops in Afghanistan, including Australians.
Lucky personnel from both ships were able to cross-deck and learn about the roles and duties of their counterparts, developing understanding within a maritime operational environment and making new friends.
