Qualified
Musicians (MUSNs) are responsible for promoting the image of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) throughout Australia and overseas as members of the Royal Australian Navy Band. The band comprises seven detachments stationed around Australia. Two detachments of full-time musicians are stationed at the naval establishments HMAS Kuttabul, Potts Point, New South Wales and HMAS Cerberus, Western Port, Victoria. Five reserve detachments are stationed in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart and Perth.
Naval Musicians will:
- perform as a member of a Naval band at ceremonial and Naval training parades;
- provide musical entertainment offered by the Navy in the public interest; and
- provide musical entertainment at official naval functions.
- Qualified Entry Sailor - non-degree (QES - non-degree); and
- Qualified Entry Sailor - degree (QES - degree).
Flute and Piccolo, Oboe and Cor Anglais, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon, Cornet/Trumpet and Bugle, Trombone, Euphonium, French Horn, Tuba, Double Bass and Bass Guitar, Percussion, Piano, Voice and Guitar. All musicians are trained on Parade Side-Drum and have an obligation to serve at sea.

Other Ranks (Non Technical) (Reserve)

The only form of entry for musicians to join the reserve component of the Royal Australian Navy Band is as a Qualified Entry Sailor (QES).
Instrument categories available include:
Flute and Piccolo, Clarinet, Saxophone, Cornet/Trumpet and Bugle, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Double Bass and Bass Guitar, Rhythm Guitar and Kit Percussion. Piano/Voice/Guitar can accompany any of the above instruments and all musicians are trained on Parade Side-Drum.
