Deployments and peacekeeping exercises are your chance to travel Australia and the world while working on important humanitarian and disaster relief programs. Below are just a few examples of recent Navy Aviation deployments and exercises.
Operation CATALYST was the ADF's contribution to the US-led Multinational Force effort to develop a secure and stable environment in Iraq, and assist national recovery programs. Australian forces first deployed there in 2003 as part of the international coalition efforts to reduce Iraq’s potential threat to the region. Service men and women from the Navy were deployed in a range of combat and combat support roles. This role then developed into a key security and training role, enabling the people of Iraq to take responsibility for their own security. The ADF formally concluded its military commitment to the rehabilitation of Iraq on 31 July 2009.
At any one time, up to 400 ADF personnel at sea, in the air and on the land, are working to protect Australia’s borders and offshore maritime interests. They work alongside personnel from Customs and other agencies.
Operation SLIPPER is Australia’s military contribution to the international campaign against terrorism in the Middle East. Australian forces contribute to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. ISAF seeks to bring security, stability and prosperity to the area and to prevent the country from once again becoming a safe haven for international terrorists.
