Deployments and peacekeeping exercises are your chance to travel Australia and the world while working on important humanitarian and disaster relief programs. Below are just a few examples of recent Navy Operations and Exercises.
The Navy has recently been involved in an Australian Defence Force effort to rid the Solomon Islands of unexploded ordnance, which was left behind in the wake of World War II. RENDER SAFE deployment saw HMAS Gascoyne and HMAS Yarra sail to the Solomon Islands to dispose of explosives which had accumulated in the sea during heavy fighting between Allied and Japanese forces during World War II.
HMAS Darwin was involved in Exercise BERSAMA LIMA 2009 in the South China Sea, a Five Power Defence Arrangements Exercise with participating national defence forces from Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
Operation TOWER is the ADF's contribution to the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT). With representation from 13 countries, the UNMIT Military Liaison Group conducts daily monitoring of the security environment, as well as providing military advice on the restoration and maintenance of security. ADF members are also employed as staff officers based at UNMIT headquarters in Dili. These and other Military Liaison Officers play a crucial role in security reform in the nation.
