ADF Gap Year
The ADF Gap Year – Navy (ADFGY-N) program provides Year 12 school leavers an alternative to other options such as travelling and temporary work before taking up tertiary or vocational training or other paid employment. The Navy Gap Year program offers a 'try before you buy' experience of Naval training and lifestyle for young men and women, without any obligation to serve beyond the 12 month program.
The program offers challenging workplace experiences within various Navy career streams that are the same as those undertaken by full-time members of the Navy.
As a Gap Year participant you will receive an attractive salary during the program and benefit from standard ADF employment entitlements such as free medical and dental care, subsidised accommodation and meals and employment allowances.
During your Navy Gap Year you will be provided with the opportunity to gain an insight into the following four areas for your work experience:
- Logistics;
- Navy Operations;
- Engineering; or
- Aviation trades.
You will be supported throughout your training by professional and enthusiastic Navy personnel from a variety of Navy career streams, who will provide the guidance necessary for you to achieve your goals.
