Further Training
Other Ranks (Non Technical), Qualified
Able Seaman or higher ranks may be selected for further advancement courses. Selection for all advancement courses is based on the individual's merit and superior's recommendation. These courses include various leadership and management courses and further category specific training.
Category specific courses include:
- Senior Dental Assistant;
- Senior Dental Assistant Preventive (Dental Hygienist); and
- Practice Management.
The Senior Dental Assistant course has been specifically designed to increase the operational capability of dental assistants in the deployed environment. The course is seven weeks long and includes several competencies at Certificate IV level from the Community Services and Health training package and is conducted at the Australian Defence Force Dental School at HMAS CERBERUS
The Senior Dental Assistant Preventive course is available to Dental Assistants in all three Services. The individual must have at least 24 months continuous surgery experience and be assessed as a suitable candidate for the course. The course is 20 weeks long and it is also conducted at the Australian Defence Force Dental School at HMAS CERBERUS.
Successful completion of the military Senior Dental Assistant Preventive course results in an increase in pay level, to pay grade three.
Practice Management training is conducted at various levels (Certificate IV level and Diploma) and includes both civilian and military courses.
