To be an effective force the Navy needs all its personnel fit and healthy, including their dental health. Naval dental officers provide the full range of dental treatments to naval personnel at no cost to the patient, and so treatment plans never have to be compromised for financial reasons.
The type of dental practitioner the Navy is looking for, is someone who works well in a team environment, is not averse to moving around the country sometimes at short notice and occasionally abroad, has high standards and a strong work ethic.
Naval dental facilities vary from large multi-dentist clinics offering the full range of general and specialist dental services, to single Dental Officer clinics at a base or on a ship. Career progression for Dental Officers is based on clinical and management competency levels. Our facilities are modern and fully equipped and supported by well trained dental and clerical staff.
Additional Duties
Apart from your clinical duties, Dental Officers are responsible for the welfare, training and discipline of the personnel under their command. They gain valuable managerial and leadership skills and experience in budgetary control and planning. Promotion is by selection to fill vacancies.

Navy dentists serve in various locations and deal with a wide range of cases. The Navy offers up to date, fully equipped Dental Facilities. Additionally, a complete transportable dental unit may be embarked for operational sea deployments, including the Primary Casualty Reception Facilities (PCRF) on board HMAS MANOORA and HMAS KANIMBLA. Dental Officers may also be employed in health administration positions, provided they have the relevant experience and qualifications for these positions.
