Job Details
There are three levels of intelligence: strategic, operational and tactical. Strategic intelligence is concerned with military and economic capabilities of foreign nations. Operational intelligence is concerned with military operations in a theatre level conflict whilst tactical intelligence is concerned with immediate operations at local level.
As a Naval Intelligence Officer you could be employed on a variety of duties including:
- Analysing information from all available sources (both "open source" and classified sources) and processing it for distribution to user commanders, organisations and units. Sources include Imagery, Signals Intelligence and Human Intelligence;
- Interpreting the significance of intelligence data/reports to the conduct of selected Naval air and sea operations;
- Presenting intelligence briefs, conducting debriefs, providing advice to commanders and fleet members;
- Analysing and preparing assessments of non-military sea-related activities affecting Australia's interests;
- Intelligence analysis tasks, which may include the application of selected Asian language or other language skills; and
- Assisting in the maintenance and monitoring of high standards of security throughout the Navy.
You may also be employed in various non-specific intelligence areas such as training and instructing.
You may be required to serve in Headquarters, deploy with ships, or in the field on exercises or specific missions. These deployments frequently involve separation from family and sometimes conditions of hardship.
You will be required to undergo an in depth security clearance assessment prior to undertaking training.
