Job Details
Graduate (Reserve)
No successful operation can be planned or conducted until sufficient information has been obtained and the prevailing conditions analysed by intelligence staff. The role of a Naval Intelligence Reserve Officer is to provide intelligence support required at all levels of command. There are three levels of intelligence: strategic, operational and tactical. Strategic intelligence is concerned with military and economic capabilities of foreign nations. Operational intelligence is concerned with military operations in a theatre level conflict, while tactical intelligence is concerned with immediate operations at the local level.
As a Naval Intelligence Officer you could be employed in a variety of roles including:
- Processing and analysing information from all available sources ('open source' and classified material) and the preparation of product for distribution to commanders, organisations and units;
- Interpreting intelligence data / reports and its impact on Naval air and sea operations;
- Presenting intelligence briefs to command and fleet members;
- Preparing assessments of non-military maritime activities affecting Australia's interests; and
- Assisting in the maintenance and monitoring of high standards of security throughout the Navy.
You may also be employed in peripheral intelligence areas such as training and instructing.
You may be required to serve in Headquarters, with 'client' agencies, on exercises, and deploy with ships. These deployments frequently involve separation from family and sometimes involve conditions of hardship.
You will be required to undergo an in-depth security clearance assessment prior to undertaking training.
Note: This is a Reserve only qualification and transfer to the Permanent Navy is not available.
