Maritime Warfare Officers, as Commanding Officers' representatives, are responsible for the control and safety of Naval vessels at sea and alongside (in port). All Maritime Warfare Officers are required to specialise, one of these specialisations is Maritime Warfare Officer Submariner. As a direct entry Maritime Warfare Officer Submariner you will be focused on your specialisation at an earlier stage of your career.
Maritime Warfare Officer Submariners progress by selection through junior Watchkeeping roles to Navigating Officer, Submarine Warfare Officer, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer; Maritime Warfare Officers are the only officers who can gain command of the Navy's submarines. Leadership and Staff training is progressed alongside submarine training to equip them for the role of higher management in the Royal Australian Navy.
The technology and sophistication of today's submarines is akin to the space program. Being a part of this Service will test you to your limits, but you will be one of a select few who get to wear the 'Dolphins', a badge of distinction.
