Pay & Allowances
Graduate
Salary (excluding allowances) on appointment at Competency Level 1 is $72,753 per year ($2791 per fortnight)*. The pay increase on progression from Competency Level 1 to Competency Level 2 is substantial and can be expected within 12-18 months of commencing uniformed service.
Medical Officers may be appointed at higher Competency Levels, with concomitantly higher salaries, depending on the postgraduate qualifications held.
Uniform Allowance at a rate of $682 per year ($26 per fortnight)* is paid to assist members to maintain an approved scale of uniforms in good order and condition.
In addition to your salary, you will also receive Service Allowance of $12,128 per year ($465 per fortnight) ) except while undertaking Military (Initial Officer) or Employment training. This allowance compensates a member for the unique requirements that service life may impose on an individual and his or her family.
Salary will continue to increase based on Competency Level, rank and the number of years of service completed in that rank. Refer to the Salary Scales.

Graduate Medical Program
First Year $54,209 per year ($2,079 per fortnight).*
Second Year $56,138 per year ($2,153 per fortnight).*
Third Year $58,153 per year ($2,230 per fortnight).*
Fourth Year $60,199 per year ($2,309 per fortnight).*
Year of Internship $64,437 per year ($2,472 per fortnight).*
On completion of hospital residency, salary (excluding allowances) on appointment at Competency Level 1 is $72,753 per year ($2791 per fortnight).*
Note: Applicants who are serving in the Reserve may be entitled to a higher rate of salary. The Officer Selection Board will advise if you are entitled to a higher salary rate by virtue of previous Reserve service.
Uniform Maintenance Allowance at a rate of $682 per year ($26 per fortnight) is paid to assist members to maintain an approved scale of uniforms in good order and condition.
Service Allowance at the rate of $12,128 per year ($465 per fortnight) is paid to all members (except for certain trainee entries) below the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent. The allowance compensates a member for the unique requirements that service life may impose on an individual and his or her family.

Undergraduate
With 4 years to graduation: $27,996 per year ($1,074 per fortnight).*
With 3 years to graduation: $33,086 per year ($1,269 per fortnight).*
With 2 years to graduation: $38,176 per year ($1,464 per fortnight).*
In final year: $43,266 per year ($1,660 per fortnight).*
In residency year: $64,437 per year ($2,472 per fortnight) .*
Trainees with dependants may be entitled to Trainee's Dependant Allowance which is paid to enable trainees with dependants to receive a salary not less than $41,658 per year ($1,598 per fortnight) while training. Conditions apply. Speak to your Careers Counsellor for details.

Graduate (Reserve)
Members of the Reserve on part-time service are paid at a daily rate of pay which is tax-free. Salary will continue to increase based on rank and the number of years of service completed in that rank.
While undergoing Initial Officer Training, degree qualified trainees receive $103.13 a day. Daily rates of pay for Reserve Force Medical officers commence at $199.32. While Reserve Dental Officers commence at $214.19 per day.
In addition to your salary, a Reserve Allowance of $12.52 per day is payable to compensate for the unique demands of Reserve Service.
Note: A higher salary may be granted in recognition of relevant work experience. This will be discussed at the Officer Selection Board.
