The Naval Police Coxswains (NPC) category is responsible for the policing function in establishments and ships. This includes investigation of offences, processing charges and prosecuting offences before summary authorities. NPCs are also Whole Ship Coordinators, which includes management of daily routines, leave, movements and travel.

NPCs can also be posted to minor warships where they undertake officer of the watch duties and provide medical support.

Employment will be limited to shore establishments until all necessary training is completed (fully qualified).
