Employment Training
Officer
- One week of Aviation Medicine Training at RAAF Edinburgh South Australia (near Adelaide).
- RAN Basic Observer Course - Air Navigation training at RAAF East Sale, in Eastern Victoria - 38 Weeks.
- Course Aircraft: (Fixed Wing) - Kingair
The provisional award of the Flying badge (Observer Wings) is presented on completion of Basic Observer Course.
- RAN Observers Rotary Wing Course - Observer Utility Phase - RAN Air Station Nowra - 34 Weeks.
- Course Aircraft: (Rotary Wing) - RAN AS 350BA (Squirrel).
- Three weeks of Combat Survival Training at RAAF Townsville.
- Operational Flying Training on Operational Aircraft - 26 weeks to one year
After completion of the Operational Flying Training phase, the award of your Observer's Wings will be confirmed.
Some of the subjects covered in the Observers Course are:
- Elementary and Advanced navigation training;
- Aerodynamics/Aviation training computer navigation systems;
- Weapons;
- Meteorology/Air Traffic Control;
- Communications/Electronic Combat;
- Electronic Theory;
- Search and Rescue Helicopter utility operations; and
- Warfare and general service training.
Australian Defence Force Academy
On completion of degree studies, Observer Officers will commence their initial employment training which consists of the following:
