Job Description
Officer (Reserve)
The Operational Logistics (OPLOG) Officer is a Reserve only primary qualification (PQ) with a focus in providing a unique understanding of logistics support in operational or support environments. OPLOG Officers support HMA Ships and deployed forces, either from a parent establishment within Australia or forward deployed support location overseas (where appropriate). Their core roles include:
- Planning for, and coordination of, logistic support to RAN units deployed nationally, and internationally (where appropriate);
- Contribute to headquarter planning for the provision of operational logistics to RAN units participating in major exercises;
- Provide a surge capacity in single and joint operational level headquarters; and
- Represent the RAN in developing key links with private industry and local community.
The role of the OPLOG officers is to develop a level of understanding during planning activities in the specific requirements for the provision of logistic support to RAN units e.g. facilitating port visit logistic requirements, and liaison with civilian contractors and support organisations. Key to the success of a port visit is a well established commercial infrastructure that delivers sustainment products, an ability to provide support in the movement of personnel, health facilities, freight movement of material, postal services, policing, accommodation and religious services. OPLOG officers will at times be called upon to assist in the tactical application of port visit planning, however the focus should be in the core roles identified above.
Note: This is a Reserve only qualification and transfer to the Permanent Navy is not available.
Selection for employment as an OPLOG Officer is very competitive and the demand for recruiting this PQ at present is limited.
