Education Requirements
Officer (Reserve)
For entry to the Naval Reserve, PREL officer applicants must satisfy appropriate minimum officer entry standards set out by the Australian Defence Force PLUS the following education requirements:
- Formal nationally recognised and accredited tertiary qualifications (minimum of a degree) in a relevant communications field such as Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or Marketing, or currently studying towards the award of such qualifications;
Or
- Passes at Year 12 level in English, Mathematics and two other subjects, and a minimum of three year's work experience in a relevant public affairs field;
Or
- A minimum of five years of prior naval service and two years experience in a relevant public affairs field (and satisfy appropriate officer entry standards).
Process:
Once you have submitted the required documentation through your Defence Force Recruiting Centre and you meet the minimum officer entry requirements, you will be interviewed in person or via telephone by a member of the Navy Reserve PREL Management Branch who will assess specific suitability, your qualifications and experience for PREL Officer.
If found satisfactory through this initial assessment, your suitability to continue with the recruiting process and attend the Officer Selection Board will formally be recommended to Defence Force Recruiting.
