Education Requirements
Officer
The Navy requires that all Non-Degree Officer entry applicants must have completed Year 12 with passes in English and three other tertiary accredited subjects.
Australian Defence Force Academy
At the time of entry, applicants must have Year 12 academic results acceptable to the University of New South Wales, University College at the Defence Academy for entry to their respective faculty.
Note: All applicants for undergraduate programs at ADFA must also apply to the Universities Admissions Centre (NSW and ACT) for entry to the University of New South Wales. The Universities Admissions Centre website is www.uac.edu.au.
Undergraduate
Undergraduates must be within three years of graduation and must have completed at least one year of tertiary studies before entry. Applicants must have passed the prescribed examination or assessment for each year of the course up to date of entry. Applicants undertaking three or four year degrees may apply during their first year, but entry will be conditional upon successfully completing that year.
While there are no specific study requirements for Undergraduate Seaman Officer entry, the following subjects are considered particularly relevant for employment as Seaman Officer. It is recommended that at least one should be studied to a sub major level:
Science - Computer Science, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Oceanography, Physics;
Arts - Economics, English, Geography, History, Information Systems, Management or Politics.
Note: The Navy requires Seaman Undergraduate Officer applicants to have gained a pass in Mathematics at Year 12 level (NSW Intermediate Mathematics (2 Unit) or the equivalent in other states).
Officer (Reserve)
Applicants are to be fully qualified as deck watchkeepers and hold an AMSA ticket for at least a 500 tonne vessel that is STWC compliant.
