You will receive the following salary (excluding allowances) while undertaking Military (Initial Officer) Training and Employment Training:

First year of training: $31,719 per year ($1,217 per fortnight).*

Second year of training (where applicable): $33,753 per year ($1,295 per fortnight).*

Uniform Allowance at a rate of $419 per year ($16 per fortnight) is paid to assist members to maintain an approved scale of uniforms in good order and condition. Midshipmen are paid $682 per year ($26 per fortnight) from the day they must become a permanent member of a wardroom.

Service Allowance at the rate of $10,672 per year ($409 per fortnight) is paid to all members (on completion of Military and Employment training) below the rank of Commander. The allowance compensates a member for the unique requirements that service life may impose on an individual and his or her family.

Salary on completion of Military (Initial Officer) Training and Employment Training will be:

Degree Qualified:

$54,924 per year ($2,107 per fortnight).*

Non-degree Qualified:

$52,012 per year ($1,995 per fortnight).*

Uniform Maintenance Allowance at a rate of $419 per annum ($16 per fortnight) is paid to assist members to maintain an approved scale of uniforms in good order and condition. This increases to $682 per annum ($26 per fortnight) after commissioning.

Members of the Reserve on part-time service are paid at a daily rate of pay which is tax-free.

While undergoing Initial Officer Training non-degree qualified trainees receive $75.60 a day and degree qualified trainees receive $80.45.

Daily rates of pay for commissioned Reserve Force Officers commence at $122.71.

In addition to your salary, a Service Allowance of $11.01 per day is payable to compensate for the unique demands of Reserve Service.
